Education
BS Honors in Anatomy & Human Biology, University of Western Australia 1980
PhD in Biomaterials and Handicap Research, Göteborg University, Sweden, 1995
Grants
Current and recent support includes grants and contracts from various orthopaedic implant manufacturers and private research foundations.
Research Area
Dr. Campbell is the Director of the Implant Retrieval Laboratory of the JVL Orthopaedic Research Center, located at Orthopaedic Institute for Children (formerly Orthopaedic Hospital, founded in 1911) in Los Angeles. She has focused her research on the implant retrieval analysis of joint arthroplasties, with particular emphasis on the biological factors that affect the clinical performance of implants, histological scoring of periprosthetic tissues, and the evaluation of prosthetic joint fixation. More recently, she has conducted implant retrieval studies on retrieved megaprosthesis implants used for limb salvage operations frequently done in paediatric oncology patients. In addition, the clinical evaluation of lumbar and cervical disc replacements and the histology of tissue reactions associated with these devices have become a new area of study.
